10% Thursday for Houston PetSet (Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief Fund)

We understand many of you want to do something to help the animals and their owners currently in danger or suffering as a result of Hurricane Harvey.

At this time, Houston PetSet is looking into how we can be a resource and potentially partner with our civic leaders, law enforcement, and national partners to support those working “in the trenches” to make a difference.

In response to an outpouring of support from friends both near and far – even friends from across the globe! – we have set up a Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief Fund to begin raising the critical funds that will be necessary for animal rescue and welfare-related efforts.

How are we assisting with relief efforts?

  • TRANSFER / TRANSPORT – If a pet shelter/aid organization needs funds to help facilitate transport or transfer of animals currently in danger, these requests will receive first priority.
  • BASIC NEEDS – We are hosting donation drives for food, travel crates, potty pads, etc. Check out our FACEBOOK EVENT PAGE for info on where to drop off supplies!

10% Tuesday for Kid One Transport

10% Tuesday for Kid One Transport.  10% of sales from 5PM until midnight will benefit this organization.

Since 1997, Kid One has been fulfilling this mission as the only 501 (c) (3) nonprofit of its kind in the state of Alabama and one of only a handful of nonprofit transportation providers targeting children in the U.S.

In every community throughout this state there is a great need for safe, reliable transportation for children and expectant mothers to their medical appointments. Mass transit is often not a resource in rural areas.  In many cases, even families in rural areas that possess a vehicle cannot make long distance trips to specialized care.

Similarly, families living in and around major cities cannot access much needed health care services for their children due to the unreliability and limited reach of mass transit systems. For all of these families, Kid One is the bridge across this transportation gap.

Ultimately, we seek to expand into every county within the state of Alabama. While there is much work to be done to reach this goal, we are confident that it can and must be done for the sake of our state’s children.

10% Tuesday for the Horizons School

10% Tuesday for the Horizons School.  10% of sales from 5PM until midnight will benefit this school.

For more than 25 years, The Horizons School has been preparing young adults with learning difficulties for an independent life. Our curriculum, with the community as our classroom, provides students with the skills to live and work independently.

The Horizons School is not located in a secluded environment – we consider the city itself our campus. Our students learn to navigate a real-life community in a safe, supervised setting. The school building and residence are located in a quaint downtown neighborhood, which has all the amenities our students need within walking distance. In addition, our location gives our students easy access to the city’s public transportation system, which enables them to access all parts of the city and surrounding suburbs. We feel that using the real world as our classroom gives our students the opportunity to practice independence in the environment they will one day reside.

10% Tuesday to benefit Heart Gallery Alabama

10% Tuesday to benefit Heart Gallery Alabama.  10% of sales from 5PM until midnight will benefit this organization.

Heart Gallery Alabama is a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding forever families for children in Alabama’s foster care system by raising awareness and educating the public.

Heart Gallery’s volunteers and staff collaborate with the Alabama Department of Human Resources to create a photographic portrait exhibit of children in foster care, which travels to public venues across the state. Our photographs serve as a compelling and authentic representation of children across Alabama who are searching for loving, permanent families. Heart Gallery Alabama interviews each available child, and these interviews can be found on the child’s web page.

Heart Gallery Alabama recruits professional photographers to capture each child’s individual spirit in a moving photographic, multi-media, and narrative journey – featured online and in public venues.

Heart Gallery Alabama responds to inquiring families with questions regarding foster care adoption.  We partner with local and statewide media resources to inform the public of the need for foster care adoption.

Since its founding in 2005 and with the support of its donors, child advocates, and volunteers, Heart Gallery Alabama has helped find permanent homes for more than 65% of the children photographed.

Join International Wine Rep Carly in trying beers from local Homewood Brewery:  Red Hills Brewing Company.  Try these two beers that we have on tap at Rojo

Homewood Hefe  5% ABV     Styled after the classic German Breakfast Ale, Homewood’s new favorite Hefe perfectly balances a cloudy light feel with low-hop, malty sweetness. Accented with traditional clove, banana, and light vanilla notes, and served unfiltered in a traditional Weizen glass, this sexy-looking beer is bound to put a smile on your face.

Underdog IPA 6% ABV    Underdog has all the aroma and flavor that you expect from an IPA. Its zesty aroma is like that of a glass of fresh squeezed citrus which balances with the tropical fruit flavors including: papaya, mango and passion fruit. The crisp finish leaves you wanting to take another sip. This beer is a true Southern IPA.

10% Tuesday for Bare Hands Jr Board (for the Day of the Dead event).  10% of sales from 5PM until midnight will benefit this great festival!

http://www.barehandsinc.org/new-index/#bare-hands

Bare Hands, Inc. is a community-supported, non-profit arts organization dedicated to cultivating creativity and innovation in metro Birmingham and the surrounding region by creating opportunities and favorable environments in which artists and audiences play an active role in the creative process and cultural dialogues.

This mission is addressed through our Día de los Muertos festival, an annual joyful remembrance of lost loved ones which began in 2003, inspired by Mexico’s sacred Day of the Dead tradition, the tradition of Decoration Day in the Southern United States, New Orleans Jazz Funeral Processions and Birmingham’s own history and community. Since 2010, we have furthered this mission through the Bare Hands Art Club, a partnership with the local artistic community and the YWCA of Central Alabama that encourages creative expression in children moving from homelessness to transitional housing.

Bare Hands, Inc. works with and for the community to create meaningful and memorable experiences – there are many ways to get involved and we hope you will join us!
